Called to Race: Felix Hirsiger’s Weekend of Grit and Gratitude in Estoril

On Wednesday the phone rang with an unexpected opportunity — an invitation to race in the Winter Series. With no time to overthink it, Felix made a last-minute decision that would define his weekend. Everything else was put on hold and by Thursday he was already on his way, chasing another chance to do what he loves.

After a long winter break and only a single day of practice, expectations were uncertain. The rust was real, the field was competitive, and the margins were razor thin. But sometimes, the greatest performances come not from perfect preparation — but from passion, resilience, and trust in the process.

Race One: A Victory Few Expected

From the moment the lights went out in Race 1, something special was unfolding. Starting from P2 in his #155 LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler Ferrari 296 Challenge (Cup 1 class), Felix launched perfectly into the lead and never looked back. Calm under pressure, precise in changing conditions, he controlled the race from the front.

Driving a Cup 1-spec Ferrari — machinery not designed to challenge GT3 cars; Felix crossed the line ahead of the entire GT3 field.

Overall victory. Against faster cars. Against expectations. It was a statement performance, defined by confidence, race craft, and absolute commitment.

Race Two: Consistency Under Pressure

Once again, Felix showed strong pace throughout the field, navigating traffic and changing grip with precision under pressure. While outright victory went to GT3 machinery, he delivered exactly what mattered — another Cup 1 class win.

Fast. Clean. Controlled.

Two races, two victories.

Race Three: When Determination Is Tested

As the lights went out, the two cars ahead jumped the start. In an instant, Felix was pushed back from P2 to P4 through no fault of his own. Frustratingly, the penalties he expected never came.

Lap after lap, he stayed composed, attacking when he could, protecting when he had to, waiting for the right moment to turn frustration into opportunity.

Timing's Deceptive Promise

Halfway through the race, everything changed again. A car spun ahead, triggering a safety car just as the pit window opened. The team reacted instantly, calling Felix into the pits at what seemed like the perfect moment. On paper, the timing was flawless.

But racing is never written on paper. Somehow, despite the strategy and the quick response, he dropped down the order — losing laps and rejoining in P8.

Another setback. Another moment that could have defined the weekend in disappointment.

But that’s not who he is. He fought back with everything he had, clawing through the field with determination and precision. By the checkered flag, he had climbed back to seventh overall — securing his third consecutive Cup 1 class victory of the weekend. A result many would celebrate without hesitation.

Gratitude Above All

While Felix stood on the top step of his category once again, his heart was already set on something more. He wanted the overall win again. He wanted to measure himself against every driver, every class, every limit.

Still, when the helmet came off and the weekend settled into memory, one emotion rose above all others: gratitude.

Grateful for the call that came out of nowhere. Grateful for the chance to race again after a long winter. Grateful for the challenges that tested his patience, focus, and character.

Race 3 wasn’t perfect. It was messy, frustrating, unpredictable. But it was real.

And it was another reminder of why he races, not only to win, but to grow, to learn, and to embrace every opportunity this sport gives him. Because sometimes the greatest victories aren’t only found on the results sheets, but in the resilience it takes to earn them.
