On Saturday, September 21, the 9th and 10th rounds of the Porsche Sports Cup Switzerland took place in Mugello, Italy. Felix Hirsiger, who had dominated the entire season and delivered a strong performance in Mugello, secured the season’s championship title early – with three races left before the season’s end. The Swiss driver executed an impressive lights-to-flag race and celebrated his victory extensively.

Training in Wet Conditions

The two training days on Thursday and Friday proved to be challenging due to difficult weather conditions. Up to that point, there had only been one rainy race weekend, allowing the drivers in Mugello to further develop their skills in handling the 992 GT3 Cup on wet tracks. Felix felt comfortable in the car and led the timing sheets with a gap of up to three seconds.

Chasing the 49-Second Lap

On Saturday morning at 9 a.m., the 22 drivers began the qualifying session for the two races. Felix had set himself the ambitious goal of achieving a 1:49 lap time. He explained, “On this demanding track, you can only achieve such a time if everything goes perfectly.” With a lap time of 1:50.055, he just missed this target but still secured pole position for the first race. In his second attempt, he clocked a 1:50.159, once again claiming pole for the second race. Felix held significant gaps of 1.4 and 1.9 seconds ahead of the second-place drivers.

An Emotional Race

The start of the 9th round in the Porsche Sports Cup Switzerland took place at 12:15 p.m. Felix had a good start and immediately took the lead. However, his rhythm was quickly interrupted by a safety car period, and the field had to regroup. After the restart, Felix defended his lead and built up a comfortable gap again until the next safety car period slowed down the race once more. On the third restart, Felix adjusted his strategy to prevent the drivers behind him from overtaking. After 35 minutes plus two laps, Felix crossed the finish line first, securing the championship title early – a historic moment, as no title in the history of the Porsche Sports Cup Switzerland had ever been decided this early in a season. Special thanks go to the FACH Auto Tech team for always providing a perfectly prepared car.

Second Victory Caps Off a Perfect Weekend

After celebrating the first victory, it was soon time for the second race of the day, with Felix again starting from pole position. Although it looked easy for the spectators, the race was anything but simple for Felix. He said, “The second race was challenging, trying to keep the car on track, as the material had been heavily worn out in qualifying and the first race.” Nevertheless, the Swiss driver secured another lights-to-flag victory, capping off a perfect weekend: double pole positions, double wins, double fastest laps, and the championship title secured early.

Season Finale in Misano

However, the season is not quite over for Felix and his team. The final two championship rounds and the award ceremony will take place at the end of October in Misano. Felix is determined to maintain his performance and will prepare diligently for the final race weekend.
